Im so glad you posted this - ALL TRUE!!!!. I went to Chief Joseph Meek & it bothers me that whoever came up with this site is FULL of false info. I remember being SAD when they closed my school - great school & WONDERFUL teachers.

Used to be a small (10-15 trucks) 76 Union branded truck stop next to the Stockyard building. Nice cafe in the first floor. When I was there, the 4th floor had already been condemned, or so I was told...This was back in the '90s....I always preferred it to Jubitz...

How did this page come to be? It's full of errors. I have lived two blocks from Meek for 12 years.
1) There is no longer a Meek Elementary School at that site, or in Portland at all. It closed in 2003.
2) There can be no confusion with a nearby Joseph L. Meek Vocational Center. When Meek Elementary closed, the school district moved the vocational/alternative high school TO the former Meek Elementary building. It is now known as Alliance High School at Meek ProTech, formerly Joseph L. Meek ProTech (several name changes over the past decade).
3) With the elementary school long gone, it cannot be a feeder for the "Vocational Center." There is only ONE Meek campus/building: an elementary school until 2003, and the Alliance-Meek-ProTech-Vocational etc. alternative high school since that time. No overlap ever existed during which the elementary school could have fed to the "vocational center"/high school.
4) The website URL is for an elementary school in Alabama, not the former Meek Elementary in Portland, OR.

We lived over around SE 42nd and Yamhill. I was eleven. Our family walked over there, and even though short, I could still see Bobby Kennedy in his open convertible, waving and smiling. It was right by the now gone Piggy Wiggly market..
